It was on a winding staircase of one of the ballrooms at the Clergy-Laity Congress 2008 where the dome of St. Nicholas was conceived. There were no tables available, while an elegant couple was sitting on the steps balancing dinner trays on their laps and I walked up to them and asked if I could “join their table.” They said, sure, and before I knew it, from sharing stories of being parents of five children to our respective professions, they gave me the contact information of the Iconography Chairman and I found myself painting the dome of St. Nicholas in Tacoma, Washington.
